Mr Abdelaal is an orthopaedic spine surgery consultant at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire (UHCW).
Following graduation from Alexandria University School of Medicine in Egypt, Mr Abdelaal moved to the UK for his postgraduate training. He then embarked on a career in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. He completed his higher registrar training in south Wales, during which he developed a special interest in spine surgery.
After completing his fellowship examinations in Trauma and Orthopaedics, Mr Abdelaal spent a further 2 and half years specialising in spinal surgery. He trained in some of the most renowned centres in the UK (Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, University Hospitals of North Midlands and in Oxford University Hospitals). This enabled him to gain skilful experience in all aspects of spine surgery before starting his consultant post as a complex spine surgeon at UHCW.
Mr Abdelaal has a keen interest in research. He completed a Masters Degree in Musculoskeletal Science at Oxford University. His work has been published in medical journals and international textbooks.
Mr Abdelaal is enthusiastic about education and surgical training. He gained a Postgraduate certificate in medical education and published articles on the future of training in surgery. He is supervisor for trauma and orthopaedic trainees in West Midlands Deanery.
